Insurance Valuations

So I've switched to RH insurance which seems to come well recommended.

Now I need a valuation - from a club or garage that hasn't worked on the van.

What have other people done?

Martin, our resident expert, are you doing written valuations from photos service (hint hint, could be a neat way of funding this site)?

I just told them what I thought it was worth and they accepted it - I'm with RH too.

Same as Panky - RH just accepted what I gave as a valuation. The were also fine with the suspension modifications as well, which other companied were not. I'm a returning customers of theirs which may have helped.

Footman James took me on my word and value assured for about a tenner. However next year I will have to up value a bit as i only valued it on what I paid. Whoops

I also do them from the "club" perspective, which means you can claim to have had an "in person inspection" if I pop down the road for a brew? :)

For those in Australia i use Shannons, non of the major brockers wanted to know or have never heard of a Commer. Shannons gave me an over the phone guaranteed payout value without even seeing it and they increase that value anually and luckily not the premiums. shanonns specialise in unusual and rare vehicles.

Normally they ask me for at least 6 recent photos showing both sides, front, rear, engine and interior and then let their in house assessors confirm my valuation. Although that is for my mgb as jimmy isn't quite ready for his catwalk photo shoot debut yet:)

surely its extreme rat look ?... very fashionable and sought after, takes an incredible amount of work and skill to hand craft such an authentic rusty appearance and should be valued higher than normal as a result.

I defected from RH to Peter James (when RH didn't offer a fleet policy) and, same as Panky, they just accepted what I gave as a valuation.

I tried PJ as I was interested in their fleet policy too - they dont include motor caravans in that policy:( So I asked them to quote separately - an hour later they came up with a price for one camper more than I was paying for three vehicles, two camper and the Traveller:confused:

Hi All. I see your talking insurance... But ironic as Had to renew mine today! I've just up'd it from 6-15k to take into account the work getting it back up together... It Just needs fitting out now & I'll up it again next year. Fully comp agreed policy with KGM come in at just over £120 well chuffed with that with European breakdown cover thrown in too.

Thanks for all the replies - been away in the van so haven't been online for the past few days.

I used to alternate between Lancaster and Adrian Flux but neither seem to do guaranteed salvage retention these days and given even a fairly minor bang would write off one of our vans I thought it best to move to RH.

For an agreed valuation they say: if your club insurance officer or an independent expert inspects your car and agrees an appropriate level of cover to reflect its true value, so there will be no nasty surprises if the worst does happen. The vehicle needs to be kept garaged to qualify for ‘Agreed Value’ cover.

So Martin thanks for your offer, ill PM you.

John, never need an excuse for a brew, will let you know next time i need a test drive.

Following all the recommendations for RH Insurance, I thought I would give them a try for Bertie the Punto Cabrio, as Liz's existing insurance will transfer to her new car, so I was going to start a new policy for Bertie. Having sold my Fiesta earlier this year I have a valid no claims bonus I can use from that insurance and have had a quote of £67 using a price comparison website. RH have just come back to me with a quote of £185.

By the way RH is called something else now got taken over sold to investors....the price has gone up too... quite a bit I wont be using them for the pa.
