SU Carb, no power on acceleration.

So I change my manifold recently from Tim and my van spluttered as I tried it. Baby has prevented my doing much since. Should I have changed / grazed manifold gasket when I changed the manifold. Is it a one use thing? I hadn't though so, but obviously by putting a replacement manifold on rather than just taking off and putting on the same one I'm guessing the alignment isn't perfectly the same...

Thanks for the info.
I think I may have found the problem, I dropped the fuel tank out today as the sender didn't work properly and I wondered if there was a blockage in the fuel line or tank. I removed the original copper fuel line from the short peice of rubber pipe connecting it to the tank and the fuel only dribbled out. I removed the rubber pipe and the fuel peed out the tank. When I looked into the pipe there was a paper like substance partially blocking the pipe so I'm hoping that that was what was causing the issue. I've now flushed the tank out, fitted a replacement sender and refitted it. As usual Brian starts fine and revs really well. Didn't have time for a test run tonight but fingers crossed I've found the problem.

Got got half a bottle left Bernie, It's tradition that we take it with us when we go camping in the Stag and I think that tradition should extend to commer meets.

It's an ally tank so shouldn't be snake skin unless it transferred over from the old tank. Been totally flushed out now and I've fitted an inline filter at the tank end as an extra precaution. What ever it was in the pipe was too big to enter the original copper fuel pipe so I'm hoping it was acting like a plug and blocking the pipe after a certain distance had been travelled and then dropping back a bit when the engine stopped allowing the engine to restart. Will find out in a bit as test drive is planned for this morning.
 
Could it be the piece of rubber fuel pipe breaking down? some stuff doesn't like the ethanol that's put in petrol these days.
 
Hi Panky and all, thanks for all your input on this, we're off out for another test drive shortly and I'm hopeful that Dave's found the problem. The rubber pipe was new so I don't think it would be that, I bought more new yesterday from the local motor factors and fitted so hopefully we'll be speeding round the Lincolnshire roads shortly.........

Hi Deb's hope Brian is cured modern fuel can cause so much trouble if left in tank while stored,I have not read all as been so busy & Ill today so a struggle ATM.....fingers crossed for good news!

Hey mate no, all advice welcome thanks for your input and thanks for the guy at Dinningtons details, will be booking Brian in for a tune up on the following road after all his grief.
 
Well he's done 22 miles and seems to be running Ok. Carb still needs a bit of fine tuning but I'm guessing rolling road session will cure that.
