Tyres

there's always a number before the "C" and the higher that number the higher the load index of the tyre
on a commer anything over 96 C is good ;) ....anything under like 92 C or 84 C is too light and make's the commer handle bad
on my Van's I always use Tyres with loadindexes over 102 C and most of the times the Michelin XC or the Firestone Vanhawks > tight corners, low consumption and great handling tyres
but the thread pattern looks kinda square .....so you could go for the Michelin XC Camping tyres .....the look more round on the thread sides and therefor more classic looking

a normal 165R15 tyre can be translated too 165 /80 / 15 so the R= 80
but not all R (80) tyres are the same height > the wider the tyre ..the higher the outside radius ......because it holds more air and therefor creates a different size
a 175R15 tyre is 6% higher in the outside radius than the 165R15 ....and that goes up every size you go larger ;)

hope this ^ helps ;)

David got the rims banded on ours to take 205 tyres ,
look good and handles very well doesn't effect the steering .
Was very cheap 40 euros a wheel in Holland.:)

Just found out that they are not so clever. They are 670/10 and need to be deflated at the rear to remove which sort of makes the idea of a spare wheel change pointless. I'm going to look for a new set but am also rather unsure. Think thinner would be more sense than wider...

We've just had 195/80 R15Cs fitted to ours. £76 a corner, fitted.
Not the cheapest but the tyre place is really convenient so they got our business.

As a result we have a set of four 195/55 R15 laying "fallow" if they're of use to anyone? Really good tread, hardly used.

Changing from 155 to 80 aspect ratio made a huge difference : it's an increase of 16% on the gearing, which isn't far short of an overdrive (18% - 21% I gather).

Smoother, easier ride, quieter.. no real change in handling and pootling along at 55 or so is now a doddle.

Also there's a chance I can now easily wriggle my appreciable gut under the van without having to jack it up ;-)

I have to get the speedo recalibrated though.

hi Doug...i was after some lower tyres to fit the van in the garage! I'm about a inch too high just not sure if these might be a touch too thin...do you have any pics of the van with glen on? Also where you located. Ta Jim

Hi jim
we're in surrey, near guildford

I could measure the wall height if you like? Or here's a photo with them on the van (as is my profile picture).

No typex was correct, you need to mount the enigma machine behind the speedo. It's very accurate in converting but unfortunately you need a dozen tweed clad geniuses to hand you pieces of paper telling you how fast you're going - only takes about 12 hours:)
