Commer 1975 PB

Hello there...just a very general out there question from someone who is not that knowledgeable in vehicles.. If one came across a Commer PB van and the engine needed replaced...Is there a more recent engine out there that would work well within the van?..Say like 911 engine works well in a VW van...I know transmission and all that need to be taken into consideration. Sorry if the letters VW upsets anyone.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Madhouse:D
Don't worry we'll forgive you for mentioning the darkside, as long as you don't put one of those hair dryers in a Commer;)
There aren't any alternative engines that will drop in without a fair bit of work but anything is possible - there's a couple of vans with Rover V8's pulling them around (one supercharged) and PaulJL is about to get 7 litres of American iron shoehorned in:cool: If your looking for a bit more power then a 1725 alloy head Rootes engine from an Alpine or Rapier will give a useful increase in BHP with very little in the way of modification (just a few bits swapped over from the Commer engine) to make it drop straight in. I know cos I did it:)

Thanks for your reply. The Alpine and Rapier suggestion sounds great but id be taking out of a lovely machine and how easy are they to find? I thin
k the rover V8 maybe a better idea..in saying that I have next to no knowledge of what such a task involves ...

God no, I'm not suggesting you pull an engine out of a running car:eek: (I'd have to shoot you) but there are engines around that come up from time to time and the original car has been re-cycled long ago. But the V8 is another matter:cool:
