Hi folks, I am new to the site and on the look out for a commer campervan (please ignore my ignorance as I am yet to find out the exact names of each model)

I was at the billing aquadrome in northampton a few weeks ago for a Vauxhall show and there was two campers parked up which got me thinking. Joking between myself and my fiancée on how cool one would be to own it got me thinking more seriously, I would love a camper of some sort but the more retro the better.

If anyone has one for sale please don't be scared to comment or pm me. I have attached a photo bellow of the two campers which are the style I am looking for.

Nice big vans :) You've actually just missed two that have just been sold (here's what you could have won;)) but the do crop up from time to time. There are other coach builts out there which are equally as capable so you may want to widen your choice a bit, good luck and we'll keep our eyes peeled.

what condition are you looking for i.e
perfect on the road mot'd just get in and go
mechanically great but bodywork/interior needing tlc but mot'd and on the road
bodily ok possibly needing some tlc but a non runner
a complete resto job.
obviously the better the condition the higher the price
if you can do a few jobs yourself (looking at your profile pic you know how to use a spanner or 2) there are some great vans out there.
 
Welcome - I love the CI ones too and would have had one could I have fitted it on the driveway, one day with a new house I'll have one.

As with any old van you usually need to know how to use a spanner or know a good mechanic. My recommendation would always be to buy one that's used regularly (in Summer) from a trustworthy person that has ironed out any issues such a overheating, stalling etc. etc. Ideally one with upgrades too that improve reliability, power and mpg. Upgrades to look for are: alloy fuel tank, SU carb (though the older carbs still can work ok), overdrive (or 6 speed Lexus conversion), electronic ignition. Not point in having a camper that you can't jump in on a sunny weekend and drive anywhere without your heart in your mouth.

Look for rot on the gutters, front peak and the back (under the floor) - and generally everywhere else! panels are available but you're looking at a lot to weld them in and paint.

Don't buy the cheapest I'd recommend.

Thanks folks for the input, I will keep yours in mind Chris but like the look of the commers with the window above the cab area.

I'm up for any kind of condition, would prefer not a complete rot box but anything would be considered. Am I right in saying they use stormberg carbs as standard?

If anyone knows of any keep me in mind and even thought I'm in Northern Ireland I will be willing to travel for the right one for me.

Hi Scott, are you a member of the I love Commer Campers page on FB? A chap is selling a Dodge Coachbuilt (did Dodge do the CI Motorhome too as it is identical). 10 Months MOT and nicely priced at £3800 -though I shouldn't think it'll hang around for long.
 
I sometimes wonder why people spend tens of thousands on 'modern vans' commer van layouts are ace and you get to fix them! Good luck. It isn't always the destination it is the journey. Happy camping (when you bag your van).
