zenith carb problem (?)

If it picks up when you pull the choke out it does point to it running lean though, try a little tweak and see if it makes any difference
 
The only thing I have played with is the idle screw. Only because it was stalling all the time. Now it's revving higher than usual but I can live with it. I'm only really used to V8's and straight 6's so this is fairly new to me.

Looking up the manual it looks like there is a "slow running mixture volume control screw" down the bottom. I haven't even touched that yet. Reckon that's the one? If so, any standard settings or is it a like my method of timing which is turn the dizzy then take it for a spin?
 
Oh, and if anybody wants to know: A daimler V8 is too wide to fit in the engine bay. Length is right though.

I usually start with a turn and a back from closed on the idle mixture. But yes with wear and different petrol grades it's best to tweak on the run, just a quarter turn adjustments at a time.
1 1/2 turns then set to the best idle to start off.
 
Just a starting point but it i simple. Hopefully the rest of the carb is OK
 
Glad to hear it. You can set the timing on the run too - nasty when you get a belt off the dizzy though;)
 
I dropped it off this morning for the first roadworthy certification in 7 years. I hope the list isn't too long.

It has a max speed of 50mph.

50 sounds a bit slow, I would expect at least 65 from a standard engine and four speed box on the flat - I guess it depends what diff is fitted. Nice pic by the way:cool:
 
It has the standard diff. I have a 52mm tacho I'm yet to fit to the dash so I'll be able to tell what RPM it wants to do comfortably. But at 50 it was screaming. Maybe because the van was completely empty and I was listening for something to go wrong.

I do have a 3.9 P5 diff I can fit but I'll probably need to complete some upgrades to the engine first. I'm going to fight the urge to fit another V8.
