At 10.00am tomorrow the living Le Mans legend PFJ242H will set off on her eighth trip to La Sarthe in France to watch the famous Vingt Quatre Heure du Mans endurance race. Whilst it will be won by Audi yet again, the estimated 85,000 Brits at the race will no doubt be rooting for Aston Martin to repeat last year's win in the GT1 category.
It'll be a 500 mile slog, fully laden weight of about 2.2 tons, four passengers aboard and all the gear including a petrol generator,a big fridge freezer, tents, gazebos, tables, chairs, luggage, food for five days, beer, wines, spirits and a family size packet of Aspro which is needed for the world's biggest annual party. The level of drinking is virtually criminal, I doubt the old girl will move once base camp is established.
The Commer though is the real star of the show, and not to be left out she'll be carrying a wheel off the Sebring winning Corvette, due to be auctioned for charity. Anyway, she's never let us down once in all those thousands of miles so I hope you'll all have your fingers crossed for the mammoth task she faces so bravely each year. we're due back on monday night, I'll report back with some statistics then.
Pip Pip and bon voyage, we sail with the tide!!
