Why am i so rubbish at.......

auto-electrics!?!?

I followed BMM advice and bought a new 7 pin plug connector and have wired it up. I also noticed my van had been wired up for a tow bar before so used the previous connections. Thought it was going really well, even when i started the acid test... the tail, n/plate lights work and the L&R indicators flash when the lever is dipped or raised. The only problem i have is that when the brake pedal is pressed BOTH INDICATOR LAMPS come on onstead of the brake lights! - PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP!

Cheers, Ray

Earth fault. Check the grounding on the earth from the plug to the van, If it's done with trailer wire, It'll be white ;)

Yes you are right white is the earth, and is connected in the plug ok, but will go and check the plug to the van earth now...although all the other lights do as they are told...surely none of these would work either??

Will be back in a minute...

If there is a poor earth, it uses the other lights to form a circuit, thus lighting up others ;)

Many thanks Martin....The white wire is not connected (earthed to anything). The other end is loose in the little corner cupboard, where the other wires are connected to the various circuits. Where/what should I earth it to?

sorted thanks guys. Just stripped and attached it to nearest bit of bodywork. Easy! - thanks to you guys.
Cheers Martin.

Off to Brecon on Thursday.
