What type of OIL?

I have been using Halfords classic car oil.

Is there anything else out there that other people use?

What should the correct grade be?

Any help appreciated!:D

Halfords classic oil is the correct grade 20-50. This is correct for both engine and gearbox.....I have found I can buy the same grade oil from a small independent motor factor for almost half the price..plenty of it on ebay too;)

20/50 is fine, but do check the API rating, it should read API/SG as a MINIMUM. The higher the last letter the better. SH,SJ,SK,SL, etc. Anything without a rating is to be avoided ;)

I don`t want to sound thick, oh well I might just as well admit it, I am thick, so I was wondering if you could explain what these API and SG,SH,etc means as I haven`t got a clue and I have never checked, but with oil being so important to an engine, I also have a four stroke petrol lawn mower and I just take any that I think is right, now of course I will be checking for these numbers so thanks for this information.

It's basically a quality rating. It has to meet minimum standards to get the specific classification.
