what do commers use to power the cooker ?

as in what do they use as in gas or another battery[?]
also do the have very big water tanks:) where are they situated[8)]
the reason for my asking is that i want to buy a commer[^] and i want to gather as much info as possible

Our van (Jessica) has a small gas bottle situated in one of the cupboards. I very much doubt you'd get very far with a battery operated electric cooker! I think autosleepers have a gas grille/hob fitted as standard, but we have a cooker too!

As for water tanks - they are pretty big (not sure of the volume) they fill up all the Right hand side of the sill area on an autosleeper conversion. I have just taken ours out as its all smelly and in the way when you want to fit exhausts / seatbelts etc.!

not too bad, but it stumped the AA bloke! Its a points/ignition thing so the electronic ignition is on order :D

Gives me a chance to get on with other bits and bobs too..

Hi Ollieborn,

Have got a gas cooker/grill which runs from a butane gas bottle which is in a compartment under the cupboards going into the floor - will try and get some pics for you next time bed is dismantled. The fridge can also run from the gas bottle but because you have to shove a lighted match though to the back of the cupboards to light it I'm to scared to spark it up - luckily it can also run from the 12v supply when the van is driving.

Water tank is HUGE - cleaned mine out the other day with baby sterilizing tablets - can't tell you the volume but took a long time to fill[:0] and even longer to drain again.
Tank in same place as bigmonkeyman and has filler pipe and cap in cab next to handbrake (old van had filler pipe recessed in side panel but tank was missing) Won't be driving round with it full as the weight will make my fuel economy even worse[xx(]

Just for info, The gas bottle in the Wanderer conversion was housed in a vented box under the floor. It was accessed through a lid under the seat behind the driver. I don't know where the water tank was slung, but the filler was located in the cab by the passenger seat (where the handbrake is on the drivers side).

Our fridge also needed a match to light it and it didn't have the option to run on the 12v supply (this was 1967). You had to light a match, place it in a sliding tray under the fridge and slide it to the back of the fridge while holding the gas supply on. If you were lucky it would light. I still have a vivid picture of my Dad lying upside down trying to see if the pilot light had lit. A also learnt some new vocabulary when it failed. He is nearly 80 now and still motorcaravans in a modern coachbuilt, but he still refers to 'that bl**dy fridge'. [:0]:D
