what a day

so my dad popped down the weekend and lent me his very good quality cordless drill to help me wire brush things. charged it up and this morning i think to myself "today im gonna get that bleeding bonnet done" went out with my fully charged drill and attacked it. battery died after about 25 mins but the front half of the bonnet looked like new "oh well, i'll wait and do the other half in a few hours" things were going pretty well

few hours later i put the battery in the drill. still dead everything was plugged in and powered up so i took the charge pack apart. insides half melted[:0][!] "oh well, i'll have to use the sander and struggle"

[:0] wheres my sander. looked everywhere then finally asked the wife. by this time im stressed out, fed up and sore (toolbox fell on foot)[B)]

"your dad borrowed it" [!][!][!]

so know i have a great little wire wheel that kicks rusts backside. but no drill. a carrier bag full of sand pads. no sander

i have had bad days before but come on trying to hunt down a secondhand power drill in my area but none yet

but at least half my bonnet is done lol

I did a bit on Bonnie today, just chopping out some of the inner cill and front jacking point. I started by cleaning up around the spot welds so I could drill them out and duly attacked them - I was puzzled why my spot weld driller outer-er bit just wouldn't touch the metal[V] can't be blunt yet I thought, haven't had it a dog's watch. After perservering for a while and getting the tip of the bit red hot I realised I'd put a wood bit in the drill instead of the spot weld remover:I

lol. on the plus side i have had all sorts of set backs and bad days (still gotta go see tim, soz to keep you waiting tim , wont be long now m8 lol) so i figure i must be due a blindingly good day soon lol

lol, im going to round up some decent tools. bonnet is looking good though. wire wheel is so quick and easy lol my dad had a good look round dolly why he was down. he was impressed but he wants to weld her with gas looking like she will be on the road next summer. although she wont be to tidy as bodywork comes last lol

Your Dad sounds like he knows his stuff and gas welding is excellent, but I prefer MIG any day on vehicle repair - it's so much easier even if the results are not as neat (for me anyway:I)

yh lol, he knows his stuff m8. i learned most of what i know by watching him over the years. i told him mig welding would be alot easier for him. but he said and i quote "i'll do it with gas, it may take a bit longer but it will be neater and it gives me an excuse to by myself a nice mobile gas setup" lol quite glad really as he wants me to get all the panels made and ready so he can do it in november if he cant squeeze it in before[:0]

my dad + cold wet weather + electric mig welder = 1 frazzled pappi

Paul when she is up and running and you take her, no I'll rephrase that, she takes you, off to some beautiful place and you have the freedom to mostly do what you want you'll realise it was all worth it.

eureka! went to bootfair and got myself a great little electric drill for £2. didnt think it would work but it does. good gamble. now im back in business lol
