weber carb solonoid on mixture screw?????

OLD camper here young camper's dad and new owner of Smurf, havent the young lads IT skills but here goes.......
Reading this really useful forum i have been trying to adjust mixture but with odd results. never seems right and very erratic. The mixture screw had an electrical solonoid about 1/2 inch diameter and 1 inch long on it controlling a needle valve inside the jet. Never been connected to any electric since we had van. The needle valve could once move in and out but seems to free to move on its own accord
Any idea what it was meant to do and what I should do about it. I've removed it at the moment and broken it...............
Could fix it in close or open position looks like the solenoid opened it when energised.
Any advice appreciated.

Morning Martin and welcome to the Madhouse you lurker you;)
It sounds like an anti run-on device, your carb is most likely off a later vehicle (maybe a Landrover or 80's Ford)as I don't think they where fitted to the Spacevan. Not sure about a fix unfortunately - unless you change the carb:I Maybe a normal jet will be a direct replacement.

Hi Martin

As Panky says, the solenoid is the idle shut-off to prevent the engine running on when the ignition is switched off. I have mine disconnected on the Beddie CF .
 
On the new Webbers I sell, there is a slow running jet fitted in its place.

Thanks for the advice, seems i been adjusting mixture by screwing whole assembly in and out. Will machine up and adaptor so I can adjust the electrcity pperated shut off valve and see what this does to the running. Otherwise a new carb.

Well a test run with the solonoid replaced with an adjusteable screw - actually needed choke to start it and seems to run nicely even possible to get a blue mixture with the colourtune. Wonder what MPG it will give.
Still likely to fit an SU eventually.
Alsop fitted nice shiny new tank and electric pump for quicker starting with a weak battery!
All day fiddling about with the brakes ready for the MOt tomorrow, bet it fails on brake inabalance.I shall ask tghem to adjust the if it does...............

Old Camper..........Don't worry about the brake imbalance...get up to speed a few times en-route and brake quite harshly! .....sorted!!

Good luck Martin (and Smurf) As Colin said give the brakes some hammer on the way to the test - does them the world of good;) On deserted, dry, private roads of course:)
