Wanted = Thin splined prop input, rims & Speedo

Hi

I am about to start my overdrive conversion. This lovely day, I will begin stripping the donor OD box.

As I don't want to alter either the existing box or propshaft - so I have a back up if something isn't right (I can't have JOG off the road for ages), I have been acquiring the bits. I now have an overdrive and box, a donor commer box and a propshaft. However, the propshaft is a thick splined one, and of course the OD is thin splined (bugger!)

Anyone got a thin splined front end of prop shaft going spare? Don't need the whole prop, as it's going to be refurbised and shortened anyway.

I am also still after a set of 15 in rims, with or without tyres. I missed out on a set on ebay yesterday that went for a £10 with tyres (I was having a cup of tea in the workshop cabin at the time and missed the alert on my phone). I think I broke my record for the number of expletives in a minute (english and spanish).

Also, a new speedo would be nice..... for an early type van - not that it's going to work properly once the overdrive is installed.

Can't help you with the bits I'm afraid but just a thought - have you got the correct output shaft to fit into the OD from the gearbox, it's different from the standard one.

That I don't know, but as I stated, I want to be able to swap the original gearbox back if there are any issues with the overdrive set up - so that precludes chopping the existing prop.

It's going to be my first attempt at gearbox surgery, and I want to make sure I have a back up plan should it not work out. Once I cut the prop - there's no going back :). I don't want to go to switzerland in the Berlingo! :):)

Have you got a complete OD box to fit or are you mounting the OD unit onto an ordinary gearbox? if the latter then it won't fit as the standard gearbox output shaft is shorter than the OD one.

I have been doing my research! I have an OD box from a Mk2 Sceptre, and a spare non OD Commer box. I will be removing the OD shaft from the former, and transplanting the commer gears from the later on to it, then installing said shaft in Commer box. However, having never dismantled a gearbox, I am expecting some fun. :)

That's the way to do it???

I have a prop end and a speedo but the speedo, dp you mean a PA type? ...I will post a couple of pics shortly...

As long as the gears and stuff are OK on the Sceptre box you should be OK transplanting the lot as the final drive is the same. The problems start if you put a Commer input shaft into the Sceptre box as 1st is a different ratio - I found that out:I
