wages too high!

maybe, just maybe if they didn't get paid too much ...just maybe they might be a little bit more hungry to win the game????????

I used to go and watch football when it was played by men but now they're all pansies who fall down when an opponent goes within a yard of them and then when someone scores all the rest of the team rush across to hug and kiss them. Nah give me the days of Tommy (Aintree iron) Smith and Norman (bite yer legs) Hunter,

But Les you are talking back in the day of 'Tsu Chu' ...none of us can remember that far back:D[}:)]:D

You say that none of us can remember it, funny that you could recall it. Did you play it or were you just a spectator and if so did you have to pay to go in, quote:

Lee...totally agree we played better when he was banned and in my opinion gerrard would be better off playing rugby the way he shoots for goal:)

Les....i can't recall it, I'm just well educated:D[}:)]:D

Don't forget the likes of Ron (Chopper) Harris. I remember when the rot set in with the likes of Billy Bremner and his school of acting. Football also had its humerous side then, with such characters as Gary (Butterfingers)Sprake.

At least by going out to the Italians on penalties, England went out without losing a match and avoided the humiliation of being thumped by the Germans.

the problem with the england squad is we have a nucleus of about 6 or 7 players who everyone regards as "untouchable" and are picked whether there suspended carrying injuries etc etc. Until we start picking players on merit and current form (not just the last 3 matches but the last 3 months form), and we also realise as a nation that we need to rebuild the entire squad with maybe the exception of the goalkeeper. We are always going to be top 10 in the world not top 3.

Colin are you reading these. You see I'm not the only one who remembers when we had men playing football with a proper leather ball not like the pansies of today. Nobby only had to smile at the opponents and they kept well clear in case he bit them. I think Gary Sprake used to be in goal but you could never see him for the pile of chewing gum paper, why Don Revie kept picking him I'll never know

Keep Hart, Johnson, Lescott and Parker - bin the rest.

Actually, Terry played well too, but he's a thug.

Yes Terry did play well, but as well as being a thug, he is too slow for internationals. I stll remember Peter Reid trying keep pace with Maradona and failing miserably! We do have a credible replacement in Cahill, when he recovers from injury.
