Vegetable Oil Conversion (on Walk Thru)

Here are some pics of the Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO) conversion I built into the fuel system of my Walk Thru. Not amazingly clear (!) but shows the major components... if anyone is thinking of converting their diesel to run on veggie oil and needs some help/advice then feel free to contact me.

This shows 2 tanks used for veggie oil - a 6 gallon marine fuel tank (used as a header tank) which runs down to the stainless steel tank, which is heated by coolant water (which runs thro the middle). The hot fuel then runs out of here, pulled by the Facet-Purolator pump and on to a heated filter (made by wrapping coolant hose around the filter housing).
Pic also shows the Webasto coolant heater, basically a central heating system for the van (and engine) - this helps with heating the oil (could switch to veggie almost instantly on a journey, if needed)

4 coolant hoses (in and out x2 for engine and heaters), plus the veg oil line. Veg oil line actually wrapped inside the 4 hoses to keep SVO at a high temperature (simpler than the 'Hose within a hose' system)

The engine bay showing the SVO line coming thro from inside van, with 12v solenoid valve (operated by switch on dashboard). Diesel fuel line can be just about seen at bottom of picture... The repositioned filter (prior to being wrapped in hose) can be seen, underneath this is the Y connector, awaiting connection of the SVO line.

A basic plan of what's been done. In reality a bit more complicated, due to the Perkins engine having a few more fuel pipes than just a simple in and out. The return fuel line is simply looped -can lead to air problems, but keeps the fuels seperate and puts less toil onto Injection Pump. Another 2 solenoid valves could be introduced to enable returns to respective tanks (may well do this in the near future.

All a bit messy - but I intend to tidy the whole system up once the van has been sorted out bodywise.
