Van wanted for Practical Classics photo-shoot

Hi all, my name is Theodore J. Gillam (Theo) and I'm a freelance writer for Practical Classics magazine. I've been commissioned to write a 'front-end' feature on commercial vehicles for the next issue of the magazine. To that end, I'd like to find a nice looking Commer van, but not a camper, to join three other classic vans probably in the Exeter area, probably on Saturday 9th August. The age of the van isn't important but the photographer would prefer any colour other than white or black. A nice Telecom yellow would be lovely, however...

Is anyone up for it? The magazine is happy to meet any legitimate costs incurred on the day (fuel, food, etc.) and there'll be a free magazine to boot. Wow. If you're interested or know someone who might be, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me at any time (within reason - up to midnight and from 7am onwards) on 01243 263808 home/work or 07879 243058 mobile.

Because there may be no-one interested in doing this, I'm going to have to put some other irons in the fire, but if this takes your fancy, please get in touch.

Best regards,

Theo

sorry count me out,did a practical classics photo shoot in my avenger and it was the most disorganised shambles ive ever come across.expenses were NOT offered or paid.they seem to pluck ideas out of thin air with little notice and expect people to fall over backwards to accomodate them.
this seems another great idea, exeter on the second busiest holiday saturday in the year, down the M5 sitting in miles of standing traffic around bristol whilst your commer boils like a kettle all for a free magazine, oh joy !!!!!
soory rant over

what's worse is it isn't even a copy of Practical Classics [:0][)]

(is a free complimentary copy of 'Frustrated Freelancers' Weekly';))

Hi Theo, welcome to the forum - hope you find someone in the area, admit the M5 on an August Saturday doesn't sound too appealing[xx(].

Look forward to the article - is nice to know commercials will get some attention:)

I'm very sorry people feel that way. I'm a freelancer, so I'm afraid I don't get to dictate how things are done at the magazine, but if I'm organising a photo-shoot and personally asking people to take time off work and drive miles just to get bossed about and stand around a lot, I'll try to make sure the participants are looked after properly. I try to bring some tea, coffee, snacks etc. and will guarantee that expenses are paid, even if I end up paying for them myself. If there's time, I'll always take everyone to a cafe or pub for something to eat and drink during or after the shoot as well. Also, I'll always get whatever I've written checked by the club or the person it's about and won't submit it unless they're happy with it. The way I see it, there wouldn't be a magazine without the enthusiasts.

To pass the buck slightly, it's the photographers who usually call the shots on the day (no pun intended) so if they don't have a clear idea of what they want, things can drag on and get tiresome. I'm with you on that one. I've worked with some very professional photographers where things have gone very smoothly despite adverse conditions and I've also worked with ones who are nightmares. Sadly, we freelancers don't get to choose the photographer.

Anyway, apologies once again.

Best regards

Theo

Many thanks for your offer of the van. My problem has been finding four vans in the same area whose owners are happy to turn up at the same time, at the same location. I sometimes think it would be easier to sort out the space programme. Anyway, I've just managed to find four such vans (one's a Commer but not a PA) but in a different part of the country altogether.

Once again, many thanks for your help. Hope all your Commers dash and don't come to a full stop.

Best regards,

Theo
