Trying to track down Commer Walk-Thru - 'The Apple Van' as once owned by The Beatles c.1968-69

Hi all,

I am trying to track down an old Commer Walk-Thru van that was owned by The Beatles during their Apple years (1967-1969).

It is seen during some film on The Anthology DVD. It's a lovely-looking vehicle and I am thinking that it has probably been scrapped but there is a small chance it might still exist - you never know!

Would anyone have any good ideas where to search to try and track it down?

Or does anyone know where I may be able to hire a Commer Walk-Thru from? I am based in London, UK.

I have attached a photo of it here. It's an F reg, so I think that dates it around 1967/1968.

Hi and welcome to the Madhouse:)
It looks like the re No is PMJ 317F (that's if they used the proper reg in the shoot) but entering it into the DVLA search doesn't bring up any hits, vehicle details could not be found.
That could mean it's been off the road since the DVLA database was set up but more likely it's been scrapped:(
Hopefully being a vehicle of interest someone has it squirrelled away and it will turn up.

Yes, I tried the registration number in the DVLA previously but no result.
Sadly, I feel that it might be the case that the vehicle has ben scrapped. Or maybe gathering rust somewhere...

But then again, it could be someone's pride and joy and just be off the road.
Would the owner need to register a SORN if that was the case?

Hi and welcome. Or exported? So that’s where Apple got their logo from. I am sure I have seen a website with Commer campers for hire. Can’t remember if there was a Walk through

Ah yes, could be that it was exported - that’s a good point. Apple logo was designed from an idea by Paul McCartney, based on a Magritte painting he had in his house.

I will see if I can track down the Commer hire place.

PS. Thanks for the Apple logo website - that was really interesting.
Here below is the Magritte painting that McCartney had that inspired the formation of their company Apple Corps (get it?) in 1967.
