I had the smaller 350ci Oldsmobile V8 diesel installed in my Range Rover back in the 90's. Very heavy motors but I found it put that weight to good use when off road, greatly improving front end traction. It was a brillent motor with stump pulling torque, and could start from a stand still in 4th with a little extra clutch.

Apart from the power gains over the tiny Rover V8, the fuel economy improved from 16mpg to around 22mpg. It used to confuse other Range Rover owners, being a V8 it sounded like a Range Rover, but they couldn't understand the black smoke from the exhaust and that it sounded like an old Leyland bus when it idled.
