The chap I sit next to at work was on his way back from a diving holiday in July and was parked next to this camper on the ferry. Few miles down the road near Glencoe he came across it again...no one hurt thankfully (except the van :D).

He's going to try and get some better pics from some of the others on the trip so will post them if they turn up...

It was a hire fortunately for him. Had just filled it to the top, someone behind him said they could smell petrol before it caught fire.

Full tank on fire and a gas bottle in there no one dared pass it.

Had 2 kids in it too so was a really lucky escape. Apparently the fire extinguisher handle snapped off so a lesson to all to check em.

It's great fun to take the piss out of these guys (they did buy VWs after all) but it should be a lesson to us all to be ready with extinguishers, blankets or whatever in our vans. I think a coach built would burn at a frightful pace.
Perhaps time to check all fuel hoses, battery cables and wiring....

Well...alright then, maybe just a little...
 
If your van does catch fire do not mess about trying to get stuff out from it, just get out and call the Fire brigade. Leave it to the professionals
 
Just to be clear, I like a vw just as much as the next guy, they are a cool bus. My point was that while we enjoy poking fun at each other-and I am sure they do to us too, there is a very serious side to this. Our classic vehicles (and their classic owners) are not getting any commoner and we need to be aware of the dangers of driving an older van. Fire is a real danger for us all.
Om rant over, wasn't trying to upset anyone.

Why would seeing this cheer anyone up?
Would you find it funny if it was your van and your kids were trapped inside?
Would you find it funny if it was your van burning and someone posted it for others to "enjoy"
