Not a Commer in site, started very sunny but last night was torrential rain, and me mattress finally gave up the ghost. A brilliant few days though with some great walks, I can highly recommend the Lobster Pot restaurant at Church Bay

where are the welsh surfing beaches? I'm a budding surfer (and now I have suitable transport) could do with a heads up. I could also visit my Auntie whilst I was there!

Depends on what part of Wales you want to head for - plenty to choose from all along the coast - where's your Aunty?
If you find yourself down here in the Westerly pointy bit - would be great to show you the way to some waves and get the board out again

My aunt is in Llanfair Caereinion, but I kind of think of that whole area of Wales as my second (third?) home!
If money were no object, I'd be a hippie in Machynlleth I'm not much of a surfer really (infact not at all!) I have had a couple of days lessons and actually once stood on the board!

My knowledge of surfing beaches better down this way (Pembrokeshire/Ceredigion) - Atlantic swell hits us first and then gets smaller as it works up the Irish Sea coast - so you pick your beach depending on weather conditions and swell direction (and how brave you're feeling[:0]). One favourite is Newgale on Pembrokeshire coast - has advantage of daily surf report and photo so you can check what surf is doing before you leave...

have showers for when you come out and have tuition & hire equipment - including hiring wetsuits Panky (you wuss) is a good beach for learning as can get HUGE in winter, but is a shallow beach break so waves don't get as heavy & dumpy as other local breaks which can be easier to get time to stand up.
There are loads to choose from, Gower Peninsula is furthest down I know of right up to Hells Mouth on the Lleyn Peninsula in North Wales - and probably more on top & bottom coasts which locals will know about - sounds like Church Bay had some surf at the weekend then[?]
Have spare wetsuits and board for the use of here if anyone wants a trip out in this area, I suppose I shall have to drag myself away from the housework and take you surfing - what a chore p.s. keep going bigmonkeyman, it won't take you long to reach my standard (possibly about 10 minutes)
