We're burning more coal and firewood than ever before, so indoors it's relatively ok. Outdoors is a different story. But even though I'm a whimp when it comes to weather like this, I must say that this country has a good approach to things like these: warm and well built houses, most cars equipped with pre-heaters and winter tyres, buses and trains keep their timetables whatever the weather etc. That said, as you well know, this cold spell has lasted for so long now and has been so severe, that even loads of trains and a fair few buses have packed up, people have been stuck in trains for hours with no electricity (meaning no heating either..), loads of schools have actually closed (that's a first!), electricity usage nationwide has beat all previous records by considerable margins, water pipes burst leading to pretty nasty flooding of cellars etc. (water mains burst near us last week, and most streets were completely flooded - as were the basements).
So, I'm surviving indoors. Just don't ask me to go out to empty the bins in this big chill !
