I know Will has the definitive thread on this.

However, in the light of the election, at least under a Tory/Libdem pact, the 1972 tax exemption cut-off date may well resume rolling on, I read in the Classic motoring press.

Needs to jump 13 years I say.

There has been talk of coming into line with most of the rest of the EU which I believe has a rolling 30 year exemption. However, as it would mean a reduction in government income I can't see any administration bringing it it just yet. :-(

Cost to the Treasury would be small compared to the total road tax take.
Maybe after the cuts and hopefully into a recovery it could happen, as surely the same arguments apply as when exemption was first introduced, just the colour of the government has changed back.
Perhaps a couple of years away yet then.[V]
