what is the advantage of using the alloy head as opposed to standard? Significant power increase? Is 65mph possible? Also the hillman engine, was it just the head which was uprated or are the inlet and exhaust manifolds also made to a better specification?

The ally head engine is more powerful but it's not just the head that is needed, It's a different cam as well. Most where fitted with twin Strombergs but fastback Alpines had a single Strombie, others had a variety of carbs including twin choke Solex and Webber. I've got a Rapier engine in Harvey fitted with a single big SU on a manifold made by Tim along with a few other bolt on mods and yes it will do 65 all day long - and go off the clock if you want;)

Peggy used to do 65mph all day on a bog standard engine set-up. Being a Highwayman she wasn't exactly aerodynamic either! Once had 78mph on the satnav during a downhill motorway blast...

I am not a person, I am a number, 395 actually......Be seeing you!
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Is the cam re profiled version of the the cam found in the standard rootes 1725? Or is it totally different? Do you loose torque for more power higher up? So better top speed but even slower up hills? Would the engine above come with the correct cam to match the head?

Hills - I laugh at hills;) The difference on mine is amazing, those long motorway inclines where I had to struggle up in 3rd can now be taken in overdrive top[8D]
The cam is completely different, the lobes are spaced differently to match up with the alloy head rocker set up. That engine should have all the required bits. I think it would be possible to swap cams with the engine in situ by taking out the radiator and maybe the front engine cover but I've not done it that way so cant be certain, also unsure if the cam bearings are the same.

That would be my preference, the listing said it was down on compression on two cylinders - could just be a head gasket:)
