strange overdrive problem

I have been driving the Iceman and - its brilliant! Any excuse to go out, i have suddenly offered to go shopping, send stuff and all manner of out of character things :D
I have noticed with the overdrive that it seems to take some time to 'warm up' If engaged when cold nothing happens but after ten minits or so it will suddenly kick in. Has any one else found this and what was the cure? Its a D type.
Apart from that and a 'slight' brake imbalance:I the back tries to pass the front if you brake suddenly but its all good:)

Just writing this makes me want to rush down to the garage and go for a drive!

What oil did you refil the box with [?] It should be a standard 20/50 multigrade oil, same as the engine. NOT gearbox oil, it knackers the o/d [xx(]

Could also just be a lazy solenoid:I

Yip its good old fashioned 20/50. Mobil i think. I think i will pull the solinoid out tomorrow as its not making ths solid click it did at first. Perhaps its sticking or got some crud in it?
Once its starts working its perfect and will flick in and out at the touch of the switch...

Well...alright then, maybe just a little...
 
I had a problem like this, it turned out to be a faulty switch on the gearbox, the one that only lets it work in 3rd and 4th. Try overriding the switch...
 
Hi Ruari, the problem vanished about 100 miles before the clutch gave up :(
Turns out i had used the wrong type of release bearing and it disintegrated destroying the clutch with it. Its still in bits on the garage floor while waiting on some dollers to get the new one sorted.
Think it must have been a bit of crud in the solinoid.

Well...alright then, maybe just a little...
 
i've the same with the alpine - always worse when it is really cold, i've always assumed it was down to the oil i'm using - that fairly gloopy halfords classic one, keep meaning to switch to something semi synthetic.

problem goes away once all has warmed up. don't think it is anything to worry about.
