Starting problems

Afternoon all
I have a 1980 Commer Dodge Autosleeper until now the only issue I have had is fuel evaporation
I fitted an electric fuel pump, regulator etc all good
Last week all started well and drove around no issue
Filled with new fuel (from Tesco) and then would not start.
Checked a few sites who said Tesco fuel was not the best so I drained the fuel tank and filled with Shell v power.
Van started and ran for 2 mins then cut out.
Replaced fuel filter, checked fuel going through, checked spark at plugs and checked dizzy, gave all electrics a clean and a spray with contact cleaner, all good started first time ran for 2 mins then died.
The only way I can get it to start is to spray the dizzy with contact cleaner.
My mechanical knowledge is limited and most of what Im doing is being learned as I go
I now need advice from the experts
Any help would be fantastic

I was having problems starting mine and my neighbour helped me check points etc. It turned out to be ht lead in middle of dizzy being a bit loose.
 
It could be a loose or flakey wire on the low tension side of the dizzy? Maybe the cleaner is improving that contact? First thing I’d always change is to fit electronic ignition, to fit to the existing dizzy is about £40 but can get a full dizzy with it already installed and with a matching coil for around £100 from Martin M. Where you based? I have a spare dizzy with electronic ignition if you’re near Sheffield so you can test it first ?

Sound like you have put me on the right track will contact Martin M for electronic ignition as this is sounds like something that I should do anyway

Hopefully so, I’d just renew it all for the low cost, also its a simple quick job, helps make them much more turn key if such a comment can be applied to a Commer :)
