Really nice looking van, thats definitely what it is.
The Estafette has similar history to the Commer, introduced in 1959 and kept in production with styling changes to the grill until 1980 when it was replaced by the Trafic. Biggest customer was French Telephones.
Smaller engine that the Commer though, starting with an 845 unit from the Dauphine, then an 1100 engine (from the Renault 8) and increasing to 1300 (from the Renault 10 and 12) in 1968. Oh, and it's front wheel drive.
I've always thought it was a bit ugly (I could get drummed out of the Renault Classic car Club for that comment)! [:0]

Cara and I did have one! It was our first camper and needed a lot of work. We sold it in the end as it was far to much work for us. We did look to buy another which you may have seen on the RCCC website Chris - was up for about £4500 and took an age to sell. We offered our best price which wasn't enough for the seller sadly......it then sold for about £2000 less than that price about 2 years later so I was told [xx(]
We had called the Estafette Fontaine, but as she was never on the road with us we transferred the name to the PA. If she had of been road worthy then we would probably of never got a Commer, met all you lovely people and have ate as much cake

Well, I just couldn't wait. I still look out for an Estafette quite often as I love them. They are still fairly available in France and Holland and at fairly decent prices. This was ours -
Ours was a 1964 I think - and good memory Panky and Chris! It had a whopping big hole in its side!
There was a Fire Engine for sale in April last year and Milk & Two did have RHD 1959 van in his yard which is the earliest around in the UK I think.

That is it Chris - we went and viewed but thought the photographs had flattered it a bit. Lovely van but the paint was really flat and the van drove quite badly (trouble with the gears). I thought it had sold for £1500, perhaps Richard reduced the price to that and it still didn't sell? Lovely chap though - and wife, we spent a bit of time looking over the van.
How are you getting on with the restoration? I recall a few horror pics more recently from some previous 'repairs'!?

Yes I think it sold for £1500.
The restoration has not progressed since the horror story, as I have had people looking out for better condition shells to canibalise. I thought I was in luck, when a guy in Somerset thought he had just what I wanted, then discovered that the car he was restoring was as bad as mine, so he needed it himself. He did offer to lend it to me so that I could copy it, but Somerset is a bit of a treck from Suffolk, so I will have a go at making the a pillar from scratch. However, I have been working long hours recently and other things always seem to take priority.
