Hi.

I haven't posted here in ages. Got a 1972 autosleeper which I've been trying to get sorted for about 3 years!! Long story short - had a few false starts with people that thought they could help. Then thought I'd found the answer and took her to Rusty Kampers in Kent. They assured me they could help and said they were happy to undertake the resto work we wanted.

However......since then (middle of Jan) we have emailed, called, left messages and all to no avail! No replies to our emails and no calls in response to messages left. So - my question is this.....does anyone know of these people and should I believe their website message that advises 'they currently have problems with their phone lines'?

If not - is there anyone who can point me in the right direction to get my van up and running and ready to use.

Hi Kathy, Have looked at their website and they appear to be a reputable business. Have you looked on any VW forums to see if there is any mention of this firm as they obviously deal with VW campers in the main. Also 4-6 weeks isn't very long in restoration terms, did they give you any time schedule?

I spoke to the guys who did mine and they are so incredibly busy - working 7 day weeks as people seem to be spending money and wanting their work done all at once! So perhaps the communication is poor for this busy time of year. But you are right to be wary but I would wonder what they would do with your van if they were going out of business; they have no proof of ownership and Commers are slightly more distinctive than VWs?
 
The fact that they've put a message on their website about the phone issues makes me think they have a genuine problem. I'd say give it another week and a few more calls, mentioning that you are looking elsewhere, before giving up on them - and as Daytona says do a little research on the VW forums to see if they have a good reputation. If you're still stuck I'm sure there are a few on here who will offer their services soon;)
Maybe plan a trip to visit their premises, if they are not too far away from you, always good to check out the facilities.

Thank you for your replies - it has set my mind at rest a little. :)

I'm sure with Spring (hopefully) on the way, they will be very busy so that does make sense. We were just concerned that after dropping her off, we were going to discuss where to start once they had a chance to have a proper look! So a bit worried with no communication at all!

Anyway - theye're not too far away, so will probably take a drive over there next week and see what's going on.

Thanks again for your advice - and hope to maybe see some of you once Izzy is up and running!! :D
 
I would go over tomorrow and find out whats happening, if there is something going down with the business you may never see your van again, if they have phone issues they can soon get new mobiles and post the number on there website....it can be done in hours not days!
I have seen this time and time again in the motor trade over the last 35 years, companys disappearing overnight never to be seen again and taking vehicles they do not own with them!
Dont take a chance get over there asap and retrieve your van!

I'm with Beachboy on this.

If they go under and the asets are frozen, that will include the physical assets and everything in their yard will be impounded.

Loosing it may be extreme, but you might not be able to get it back until their affairs are squared away properly.

It is worse case scenario, but if they are in that position, the last thing they'll be worried about is property that doesn't belong to them.
 
The warning signs are all in your 1st post. No reply to emails or calls since Jan!!!!!!!!!!!
Get your van back NOW!
