Can anybody tell me whether the Commer gearbox has a switch to activate reversing lamps - or has anybody rigged up something custom for this ? I've now got some I'd like to fit but couldn't find any reference in the Workshop Manual

Hi Paul, this is a pick of the Rapier gearbox I fitted after transferring the Commer top cover, the switch on the right is for the OD inhibitor switch - I'm guessing the one on the left is for a reversing light as it is operated when you select reverse. It is exactly the same as the OD switch to look at. The Commer gearbox has a plug in it's place.

My van has a pair of wipac reversing lamps on the rear, I have to operate them manually from an illuminated toggle switch on the dash, they are also quite useful when loading up the van in the dark.

Thanks folks, I've found up a NOS Sunbeam/Hillman reverse switch for £8. I've made the big assumptions that this should also fit the Commer box in place of the plug and that it's an easy job to do.

Will keep you posted on progress.
