Replacement Fuel Pump Relay

Hi everyone,

I’m currently having some work done on my 1972 Commer PB Highwayman, and the mechanic has identified an issue with the fuel pump relay. It’s not functioning, and the wire held in his hand in the attached photo is the one in question. He’s recommended replacing it, but we’re unsure where to source the correct replacement.

Any advice on where to find the right part would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.IMG_3957 2.JPG

Hi Max and welcome along :)
Our vans originally came with a mechanical petrol pump on the side of the engine so any electrically operated one will have been fitted as a modification. If there's a relay associated with the electrical pump then that too would have been an aftermarket addition - unless it's somehow been wired into an existing connection somewhere. If you can get a picture of the relay where the wire has actually come off then we might be able to identify what you need.

Thank you for your response, that is very helpful and interesting, would it be a lot of work to convert it back to its original mechanical petrol pump and would that be the best solution? From what the mechanic has said I believe the wire is frayed or possibly burnt at the end however not come off.

Not difficult at all all you need is the correct pump and gasket, the mechanical pump is situated on the side of the engine under the spark plugs. If it has been removed there might be a blanking plate over the hole - or the pipes may have simply been removed.

Ah ok, I think it’s between trying to repair the current aftermarket fuel relay or reverting it back to how it was. From what you’ve said that sounds the easier option. Thank you for your help again.
