Reconditioning Water Pumps?

Following Smurf's recent mis-adventure, how easy is it to recondition a water pump[?][?]

We will shortly have 2 spares and all the bits and pieces are available from Speedy's.......The manual shows you how, has anyone done it and on a scale of 1 - 10 how easy[?]

Hi Colin, never done one myself but doesn't look like rocket science.
I have an alloy one which i will have a go at one day when i've nothing better to do.(some chance)[V];)
The last one i got from Speedy's was cast iron and weighs a ton but(touches wood) doesn't leak[^] and its been on over a year now.
The alloy ones tend to rot more so unless it looks pretty good in general its sometimes not worth doing.

I took the guts out of my leaking pump to blank it off for the lekky one. I wasn't to careful and destroyed the impeller in the process but if you can get all new internals it doesn't look too bad a job as the bearings and seal knocked out quite easily.

Don't know about that - I didn't know they did iron ones, must be early.

I recon it must be from a minx engine although it is identical apart from the material its made of.

Another thing with the water pump again...lol ... not sure of correct names of parts lol... the bit that turns and bolts onto the dish thing, that attachs to the fan...hope that makes sense lol :D on smurfs old one, it was 4 leaf clover shape and the one from cambridge was just a circle... Why, hope that doesn't make a difference, but thought i'd ask[?]

Cazz...Missing Smurf being on the road now!!!!

Cazz, you mean the flange that the pulley bolts to :) and no it doesn,t matter what shape it is. probably an early and late model difference ;)

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

There's a new word for my new commer vocabulary :D Thank you, when's my exam lol...

But see you knew what i meant.

The new one is CI

Oh dear, guess what?? On taking the 2nd hand one off and examining it, I don't think we needed to spend £60 at Speedys for a new one[V]

It has a backing plate held on with a screw bolt yes!?!

Well when I seperated it to fit the new gasket, I held it in a vice to do so and when I went to tighten it up the plate wanted to dissalign itself! So, I thought just pinch it and then tighten it up once on the van!!

Guess where the white chalky line was??

YUP!:I:I coming from the bloody bolt that I forgot to tighten!!

Am I cross about it?

Heck no! all part of the learning curve and now we got a perfectly good spare lol

You've got a good spare then:I
Squirt some oil in it and bag it up to keep it ready - just in case.

I just got all excited :I then read through wrong sort of water pump (I need to get the one for sink working any pointers any one especially how to remove it)

Is it the foot pump on the floor. If it is then there are just 3 screws holding it down to the floor boarding:I.

Harvey the RV

yep, can undo those 3,but underneath is a completely different story whats holing it how do I get it off [?]

Appart from the pipes that should be it as far as I can remember. The last time I had it out ([:0]) was to fit the carpet tiles. It maybe just a bit tight in the hole ([:0][:0][:0]) ooo err missus:I
