Radiator

Has anyone fitted a non standard Rad ? If so what one? Also what would you use to clean out a Rad that’s off vehicle? And I’m after a very small toilet area window maybe tiny Louver?can’t up load photos says to big Thanks

I've heard of dishwasher tabs being used, white vinegar, CLR and citric acid are other options. I'd try the dishwasher tab first dissolved in hot water and poured into the rad then left for a couple of days.

Only with V8 conversions and I think they were truck rads. Colin the Fox had his re-cored with a denser core with good results. When I removed the mechanical fan and replaced it with a lekky one I plumbed a bike rad into the heater return and it works very well.
If a radiator is in good condition with a standard engine set up the original rad should be OK, it is on my Jennings, so you might need to look at the entire cooling system. Once you've finished flushing the rad replace it and do the dishwasher tab thing again through engine and let it run for a while - rinse and repeat.

There's a problem with all these old "four in line " engines, in that muck collects between cylinder 4 and the back of the engine, because there's not enough flow from the water pump to keep it flushed clean. This can result in local boiling in that location. It may be possible to winkle it around with a bit of wire through the cylinder block drain valve opening and flushing it out that way. I can do that with my diesel, but don't know about petrol.
On the subject of radiators, anyone who recores rads should be able to offer a 25 percent uprated core which will cope in all normal circumstances.

I renewed the core plugs, as some were leaking, but the gearbox and flywheel had to be removed to get to the rear one. The amount of crap that was behind them in the block was scary, a jet washer and poking wires through the openings got rid of most of it (very messy) but failing that several chemical flushes won't do any harm. Probably best to dump the chemical while the engine is warm, and the sludge is still in suspension, by pulling off the bottom hose.

Yes done before it went back yes your right Couldn’t believe the thick muck that’s in there ! Problem is the other one I put chemicals in flushed SO many times still mucky water colour! It’s all clear then you start run looking in the rad and it’s muck again! I got a awful thought it’s got into the inside of rad and blocking it, it’s a new (well 8 yrs) re cored and bigger but over heating badly So both mine are over heating! Regs is fine
