project anyone?

Seems like I might have to change my view on planners, I tar them all with the same brush. Do you want to move to Yorkshire, Renaultvation, I could do with a friendly face in the planning office ;)

Can't see it being a major problem for council as long you let them know that No1 isn't abandoned and that you have been working on her - which you have. Once she is done she will be on public road anyway - and the rest of your fleet proves that you haven't dumped her there as rubbish.

Hopefully the helpful council lady wants you to have written permission from the council to wave under neighbours nose to get her off their back - may be the only way for them to shut her up.

Hi Renualtvation - sure is good to know there is such a good variety of professions included in forum - any tips for the wording the letter for permission for Chris to keep van?

Am guessing applying to open it as a mobile brothel and drugs den may be unhelpful.[}:)]

Chris, sorry I haven't replied sooner, just got back from Freeport, Braintree - now broke:(
If you would like to forward me a copy of the letter you got from the council, I will take a look at it and see what I can advise.:)

Just for info, the following link is the best practice guide for local authorities in using S215.
http://www.communities.gov.uk/documents/planningandbuilding/pdf/319798

I have known it to be used to clear vehicles where there have been large numbers apparently abandoned for a long period with no prospect of restoration tantamount to a scrapyard, but even in these instances it has usually only required a reduction in the numbers, not wholesale clearance.

thanks again that made an interesting read [V]but none of them where quite like my letter [^]
I write further to my visit to see you on 22nd august 2007 regarding a complaint about vehicles that you own being parked on the grass verge.
I must advise you that your tenancy agreement states the following:
4.community responsibilities
4.10 you and your visitors must not park a vehicle anywhere on your property except on a "hardstanding" (a driveway or paved area intended for parking). you and your visitors must not park any vehicle on any grassed areas around your home or on any communal grass area.you and your visiters must not park lorries, coaches, hgv's,commercial vehicles, plant or vans over 25cwt,caravan or motorhome on the garden, driveway, paved or grassed area around your home or on any communal parking areas without the council's agreement in writing.you and your visitors must not park anywhere that would obstruct emergency vehicles.
However,I note that you have refrained from parking on the grass verge.
further, I must remind you that although you have have camper vans in your driveway, which you are carrying out works to,I must advise that it states in your tenancy agreement that:
4.12 you must not do car repairs or park an illegal, unroadworthy or untaxed vehicle on the land around your home or on the road.
further, please note that you need written permission to park the camper vans at your property, this is stated in your tenancy agreement.I have checked our records and cannot find a written request from you.
therefore,I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing, that you require permission to keep all 3 camper vans at your property.
if you have any further querries or questions regarding this matter please do not hesitate to contact me at the above office...
my reply:
dear sir/madam, I am writing to request written permission to keep my 3 classic campervans at the above property.
many thanks
yours sincerely

ps one is being used daily.the other two are waiting restoration.
Moted,Insured,Taxed or sorn

mmmm.... the 4.2 bit sounds sticky - about carrying out car repairs to unroadworthy vehicle.

Perhaps request permission to keep no 1 as a camper on your property - maybe officially as a spares vehicle (any ideas renaultvation?) but don't mention the restoration bit and wait for the neighbour to go out or move before being seen fixing her up. Is No 3 staying with you there too?
You can state that Ran is taxed and tested and your current main transport which you need to park outside.

Good luck:)

what a wonderful drive that would be is that bessie I can see studio?

The letter doesn't mention S.215, but appears to relate solely to a tenancy agreement. Unfortunately, this is not an area I have any knowledge of. Have you looked around the neighbourhood to see if anyone else has 'unroadworthy' vehicles, although I appreciate you may not wish to drag other people into your battle.
The council has acknowledged that you are not parking on the verge, which is positive and in your favour. Now you need to persuade them that vehicles are not old wrecks, but an important and rare piece of British motoring and social history (mention that this is the only such vehicle to be represented in the National Motor Museum). You could push your luck and ask if the council is able to assist in saving this heritage.
If it would help, I'm sure members of the forum, myself included would be willing to write letters to your council in your support. In my short time on the forum I have quickly realised how supportive you are of each other. Quite mad, but supportive.
P.S. I am another Chris!

Hello another Chris! mad is fair comment - guilty.

I am happy to add a letter to the pile for your council if things don't go smoothly - commers are becoming too rare to lose any more that can be saved - I'll include a pic of Martha if they want to see what they can look like when they go - makes No1 look like a rolls royce:D Put in for some lottery funding while you have the pen and paper out:D

thanks chris, yes my neighbour 2 doors away has an old anglia (which I sold to them) lol & my daughters playgirl mini!completely restored!the culprit who complained about me parking on the grass verge has been doing so since I moved the mini which was being used daily at the time.their are a few work vans including a recovery truck also a caravan dotted about, space isn't a problem the road is of good size with most people parking up their drives 4 that are parked on grass verges purely so they can get straight out in the mornings for work, the council should be more concerned about the speed of which cars go through at rush our,it's a thirty & they fly down this road!

The best form of traffic calming is parked cars! I lost a cat and had another seriously injured down our road (30mph). I live close to a hospital that now charges for parking. Consequently all the staff now park in my road (and every other road in the neighbourhood) and the traffic has slowed right down. I'm now overrun by cats!:D:D:D

my reliant rialto hit by tractor written off that's why I don't park on the road, 1 cat down mind you cats take up less room than commers :D

Chris, I've been thinking about your problem and have put a few words together which you may be able to use in your letter to the council. See what you think.
Dear .....
I refer to your letter dated .... relating to the parking of my Commer motorcaravans at my home and your acknowledgement that I am no longer parking vehicles on the grass verge.
I must apologise for my oversight relating to the need to obtain permission to park a motorcaravan of any description at my property. It was not deliberate on my part. You will have noticed that my motorcaravans are not large coachbuilt motorhomes, but rare surviving examples of an iconic classic British vehicle, the same model as was chosen to represent an era of motoring and social history at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu.
It was not my intention that my hobby should adversley affect the amenity of the locality and in my opinion, looking at the number of large trade vans parked in the neighbourhood, I don't believe this to be the case. However, I have taken steps to contact ther owners of such vehicles for assistance, but they are few in number and scattered around the country. At present, none is able to offer alternative storage facilities for my restoration project within reach of Royston. If you are able to advise of, or assist with any such affordable facility I would be most grateful. In the meantime, I would be grateful if you would grant me permission to site my historic vehicles at my home.
I look forward to a positive outcome.
Yours etc.

I'm not sure whether RAN is your sole daily driver, but if it is, it would be worth stressing.
I hope this is of some help to you:D:D:D

I think I will go with what I have written already, then if I get a move your campers within 28 day's type letter go with this [?]

Dear Madam,

Regarding your letter dated.......

I'm keeping the vans - you cause any aggro - I'll send the girls round, know wot I mean?[}:)]

Luv Chris:)
