Price Estimate

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a van (pictured below) in order to start a mobile coffee van.

I don't yet know who it belongs to (maybe someone on this site!).

Can anyone give me a rough idea as to what to quote as a purchase price when I find the owner?

These are the details I know from some hpi back ground checks.
  • 1973 registration
  • 63k mileage (approx)
  • last MOT expired 2016 and it hasn't been renewed.
I haven't taken a picture of the interior but it looks like it has previously been used as an icecream van or similar and it does need some work on the interior at a minimum.

Any ideas on what I should offer to the owner (when or if) I find them?

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome:)

The best advice I can give is to have a long look at the UNDERSIDE of the vehicle, and have a good prod with a finger in all the places where road dirt may have accumulated . That's where the rust damge will be, and where the majority of any cost will be in putting the vehicle on the road. You will also be able to see much more about the general condition than you will from above. Front valance, door bottoms, the peak over the windscreen, load floor, cab floor, spring hangers, jacking points, outer and inner sills, gutters, the seam under the windscreen, are all prone to rot. Beware of filler! Use a magnet! It's all about rust! The good news is that panels are available.

Mileage is totally irrelevant to value on this age of vehicle, and mechanical condition is of secondary importance, as most parts are readly available. But you can still run up a fair bill repairing them.

I can't imagine anyone would give you an estimate of value based on the information you have provided.

We need pictures of all the areas mentioned, then someone might be able to offer some advice.

Good luck!

Are the one in Cardiff. I was randomly seeing a friend and parked next to it! I left a note on the window and a picture on the forum but no one wrote back. Good luck finding the owner.
