Possible camshaft

Hi all, after all the traveling back and forth north, I started supercoolcommer this morning and the oil light is on, the engine sounds like a diesel, and the oil pressure guage is low. I am guessing its the camshaft? But would like confirmation and advice.
The oil level was low but not non existent, so filled it up and made no difference..
Thanks

More likely crankshaft, big end bearings [V] They knock when badly worn and you loose oil pressure.

Its now all back to normal. I turned a cog which I thought was the heater cog for hot and cold. Turned it back to hot again and its all back to normal, pressures bak up, oil lights off, and it sounds sweet again??
Thanks Martin:)

Sadly its sounds like its only back to normal because its cold and problem may reoccur when oil gets up to temp (after 30 minutes running):(
Cold oil is more viscose oil which makes more pressure.

I was hoping you were not right, but alas you are!! So whats the best option, lower rebuild or engine change?
What other engines will fit?

The cheapest option is to find a second hand replacement - but obviously unless you know it's history you can't be sure if you are buying a good one.
I see from you other post you've cottoned onto the fact that Rapier and Holbay lumps will go in:I. There are a few bits and pieces you need to swap over, then sort out the carb(s) linkages and make an exhaust system - but as far as engine conversions go it's a lot simpler than most.

You should be able to pick up a used running engine pretty cheaply (but noone knows how long it will run for unless it comes history) or else a professional reconditioning & unleaded conversion will cost £800 to £1000 or an overhaul at £500 - £700
