Hello all,
I have been looking for a Camper for some time now and have found an old J reg Commer and have been offered it for £200 (the engine doesnt work but the guy seems to think he can get hold of a working one.

I am going to see it tonight for the first time and was wondering if anybody out there could give me some advice on what to look out for and all that.

Hi,and welcome. Main problem is rust. Front valance, below windscreen, front door steps, floor pans, door bottoms, cills, rear lower corners and gutters, so nearly everywhere [V]
Mechanically pretty good, steering needs greasing regulally, engine needs lead additive. Worth trying to get it going, if not I probably have one.
If you get thru that lot, it sounds a good buy and its a lot cooler than those V Dub things :D
 
Hi Dreama, rust is the enemy with Commers, though VW's seem to suffer worse i think.Best advice is to have a good poke round underneath, if there is any rot all is not lost as panels are available.Look under the carpet on the cab floor to see what the floor is like as well.Mechanically Commers are straight forward and spares are available, to be honest there isnt much you cannot buy.Finding another engine wont be a problem :D
