Took the yellow pickup for the test today. Had a really nice quiet ride- ran out of petrol and had to be towed there:I
Good new is, that it PASSED first time. Got an advise on soft rear shocks and slight play on kingpin. Not bad since it hasn't been tested for some years.
Took 3 others out of the fleet and all passed:D Hot rod was hardest, as I had to take it home to adjust handbake and reconnect indicator- was awesome with the blown V8, just keeps backfiring occasionally, very loudly [^]

I had a miss fire on my previous van, in fact it eventually conked and the bang from the exhaust sounded like a shotgun going off [:0]. I eventually found the problem was caused by a dodgy connection on the coil, the point where the spade connections are riveted onto the coil had come loose and finally contact was lost [xx(]. The bang, I thought, was made by unburned fuel hitting the hot exhaust and igniting - very spectacular. Might be worth checking.
 
I was chatting about this with my son last night, the new engine came with a bigger coil, so I might try that. As you can imagine, the blower sends a lot of fuel down the hole, so the bangs are quite spectacular [8D]
 
My van (when she was running) used to backfire only when semi-idling down a hill and you tapped your foot on the accelerator!

Someone said gravity and fuel supply may be to blame :)
 
Taxed and insured the pickup yesterday, supposed to be taking it to a show at Ripon today (wife's got a headache, so don't know yet!).
Took the petrol tank of last night, full of sh*t from been stood for 6 years, runs loverly now.
Collected the 'A' from the garage also, runs 'butiful'. No more poping and banging. The guy said I was lucky it hadn't holed a piston!
 
Nice to hear the A is running smoothly MArtin!...I take it we can all take it for a thrash down the A1 when we all meet up!!..[}:)]

Didn't go to Ripon. Decided to go drag racing to York[}:)]
My sons talked me into running the 'A', just to see what it would do.

14.1sec 102mph quarter mile :D:D:D

Wiped out all the young kids in their hot hatches [}:)]

Is that Mr Maltas Snr or Jr under the helmet [?]. How do you fancy your chances against that 11.5 litre Dodge camper in CV+P :D
