Peugeot Engine???

Hi,
My second van, a LDV Pilot is rusty and dying. It has a 1.9litre diesel Peugeot engine in it which has done 140,000 miles and running well. As I wrote an advert on gumtree this morning trying to sell the rusty shell due to the condition of the engine, I had a brainwave.....
Could I manage to fit the Peugeot diesel engine in the engine bay of a commer...???? I'm sure tramps would love the powerful lease of life, aslong as the operation wasn't too enduring....
Anyone know the peugeot engine well enough to know whether this transplant would be possible??
I'd love to hear any thoughts on the matter.

i have been having similar discussions with my dad on this subject. he seems to think they will fit nicely. the only major issue he see's is making up the gear linkeages for a 5 speed box. you say its a 1.9 diesel? i cant remember if they are a special commercial engine or the same unit they fit in cars (xud) fitted with a rear wheel drive gearbox. i dont suppose you have a pic of the ldv lump[?]

Anything is possible you just need a good skilled mechanic and the funds to go through with the project. I think LDVs had Perkins engines in them at one time and so did Commers so if the LDV can take the Peugeot lump then so should a Commer - but then again I've been wrong before:I

Hi Nancy! Hope to see you guys in Pandy again next month.

If the engine proves to fit the engine bay it may be easier to try to fit it to the Commer gearbox negating the need for new linkages etc?

thats what my dad said he seems to think he can do that no problem, but i wasnt sure the box would take the extra torque ect. guess my dad was right hahaha just had a looksy on ebay and it looks like they are the xud engine like they fit in cars with a differant air intake and gearbox. i have seen peugoat 205's fitted with 1.9td xud engines so i should think it will fit a commer like a glove

Exciting....
Maybe Tramps could take me on adventures to the other side of the country again... But as you say Panky, I have to find the right mechanic and weigh up the costs....
Unfortunately we won't be making it to Pandy this year, I have other commitments on the second May bank holiday. shame, be lovely to see you all.
