Our first trip away

Hello...

Thought it was about time that we published some photos of our Commer. We've had her for about a year and a half - but when we got her there was very little of the campervan aspect left - a few cupboards (loose and beyond salvation) but no bed. We've been driving her around the Devon lanes since we've had her - and she's done us proud - I've even used her as a daily vehicle for a couple of months - however after a nice rest over winter in a dry barn on a local farm we decided it was time to address the lack of camping facilities in the back! As nothing of the original Dormobile interior was savable - we started from scratch - putting in amongst other things - a rock and roll bed, cupboards (including wine rack - my idea;)), stove, sink, fridge and curtains. We're not finished yet - there's still quite a bit to do - but we couldn't wait to give her a first proper try out - so off we headed to Cornwall for 4 days...

We had a fantastic time - and were genuinely chuffed with the interest she generated on the campsites - one chap even bought his mum back the next day to have a good look round!!

Oh - and Martin - the spare wheel has arrived - many thanks for that!! :):)

We've got another trip to North Devon planned soon - so we'll try and upload some more photos after that.

Cheers

Amy

Oh yes, i love it. We will be doing something similar with our van i think? I remember you're van when it was for sale. Didn't the chap have two Commer's at the time? A purple one if i remember correctly?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!!

Thank you:I We're just pleased to have her back to her original use - spending our first night in her was brill!

Comm-Pete - I think you're right - the guy we bought her off did also have a dark purple one - but I think it had already been sold. We got her off e-bay - took a bit of a chance and I think we probably paid a little over the odds considering the lack of interior - but every penny was worth it - as we love her to bits!! Is your Commer the Dormobile that is featured on the front cover of the Classic Camper Vans book - if so - when originally researching camper vans - yours was the first Commer I stumbled across - and with one look I was converted!

I thought so Amy;-) As long as you both are happy with what you paid that's all that matters;-)
Yes, our van is the one from the book, although it looks a little different than the book pictures now as we have changed the interior a fair bit. Really good to see another Coaster out there as there aren't many of us around at the moment;-) Are you coming to Commerfest?

Afraid we can't make Commerfest due to other commitments:( - though will look forward to seeing all the piccies - and will definitely try and keep the weekend free for the next meet.

The purple one was bought by Dan, he came here earlier in the year. Lives in London, but the van is in Devon or Cornwall at the mo :)

Hi Amy,

AT LAST! - someone else from our neck of the woods! Lovely van! - and awning.

We live in Cornwall, near Liskeard. Had 'Wilma' for about 7 years now. I work in Plymouth. Where abouts in Cornwall did you go?

We can't make Commerfest either.... just too far I'm afraid.
Ray

Hey Martin - strange that the purple one's ended up down this way too! Are there any more Commer owners in Devon/Cornwall that you know of?

Hi Ray,

Yay - another Commer owner in the South West- you answered my question in my previous comment while I was posting it :D:D We live in Devon, near Kingsbridge about 25 minutes from Plymouth. On our trip to Cornwall we went to a campsite just south of Mevagissey - near Goran Haven, and then up to the north coast to a campsite just west of St Agnes. We've only lived in Devon for 3 years and hadn't got over the border much to Cornwall until now - we loved it - and will definitely be taking Titch back in the very near future. Wilma is an absolute stunner - I didn't realise she was based down this neck of the woods. If you're over this way feel free to come by and say hello!

Hi Amy,

Thought I recognised the photo! - we were at Mevagissey and Goran Haven 3/4 weeks ago, Sea View international - nice site.

We tend to go camping around D&C, although I took Wilma up to Snowdonia, N Wales in June... 700 miles, no problems. We had slim hopes of making the even longer drive up to MM house for CFest, but other stuff, the cost and the very long drive has finally killed off any fading hopes. But hope to try to make future meets.

We take her to 1 to 2 shows... I'm sure we are planning to go to the one in Totnes sometime over the summer??

Best Wishes

A really lovely van and great job on the new interior too :p (that's my winter project for Hunny and making notes ;))

That awning looks perfect for use with the Commer side door, could you tell me what make/model it is please ?

Hi Paul - thanks :). The awning is a Spacemaker awning that we bought from Just Kampers. It does work with the side door on our Coaster - though you do have to take care when opening and closing the door - as the awning opening is a rectangle with curved corners and it just needs a little bit of gentle persuasion to get the upper corner of the door under the curved edge of the awning opening. We haven't tried putting up the inner tent in the awning yet - I suspect that it may interfere with the door a little. But if it does - I suspect it would simply be a manner of un-clipping one corner of the inner tent to allow the door to pass.

Oh - and one thing to bear in mind if you are tempted is that we got the awning in a sale that JK put on - so it may make the sale list again.

Ive got the same awning for the back of my auto sleeper fits the commer a treat;)
Van looks really cool and very plush inside!:D
