On our hols in the camper next week

After many long weekends this year away we're embarking on our first full week's holiday in our camper next week :p. Heading from Norfolk to the South Downs and Brighton area in general.

Would welcome any suggestions of low key 'hippy' campsites (ideally who allow fires) or wild camping recommendations etc

Deepdalefarm.co.uk in Norfolk is a cool little campsite but doesn't have electric hookup.

And Clippesby hall (also Norfolk) is a nice site, not really "hippy" and a bit expensive at high season, but it is a lovely set up, some secluded pitches set over a few different areas. And close to the broads if you fancy exploring on the water.

Blackberry wood is a lovely campsite in sussex, but you have to take a tent or rent one of their caravans coz they don't allow campervans - which probably defeats the object of your trip - but it's a really wild, hippy campsite with outdoor showers, pitches in secluded glens, and you can build a fire if you want. Worth spending a night there on your way through.

I think you're right Admin (sorry, don't know your real name!) Blackberry wood did used to allow small campervans.

But not anymore due to the type of licence they would have to have.

Bureaucracy will always try to get in the way of having a good time:(

I can recommend Graffham near Petworth. It is a Camping and Caravanning Club site, but I think it is open to non-members. Unlikely to allow fires though as it is set in a wood with individual pitches in small sandy clearings.

Paul I know of a great wild camping site near Goodwood in two fields up a track, has only has one tap and nothing else so make sure you take loo roll and spade at least.You can have fires all night long and do whatever you think you can get away with. About £3 per person a night.

No need to pay to wild camp...;)
Drive to the country. Find a pub that suits your needs (nice grub, child friendly, not full of kids/inbreds or whatever), then drive around till you see a dirt track. These invariably lead to farmers fields. Gated fields have livestock in which farmers prefer you not to camp in. Ungated fields have crops, drive in, around the corner from the hedgerow (crops are never planted right up to the hedgerow). Walk to pub. If you're fussy about privacy (like my wife) you can usually find one out of sight of any houses.
PS this is more difficult in National Parks like the New Forest but usually easy everywhere else.

If i was the farmer I would do a drive by with my tractor...towing a silage pump and splurge the intruder!!

Unless it was a Commer:D
