old fashioned

I'm hoping that someone on here can help me out. In the 1960s, when our vans were new and top of the range, when you went to the pub for a pint, you could also get ?????[?] they were a little packet containing a triangle of cheese, a couple of biscuits and a small cocktail onion. They used to be popular in them thar days. The reason I ask, is that my local has started selling pickled eggs, another popular bar snack when I war a lad. [?]

I know what you mean - my local still sells them...they are called (or now called) Ploughman's Lunch - you also get a small spreading knife...

Don't they make a change from crisps, crisps and more crisps. At least with these packets you're getting one of your 5 vegetables for the day with the onions, plus the calcium in the cheese.

My local sells pork scratchings by the pint or half pint, pork pie (with a sachet of mustard) or a pickled egg. The scratchings and pies come from the local butcher and the eggs are home pickled. However, the best food comes in liquid form in pint glasses!

When I first came to Keighley in 1969, after we had been to the pubs we would go to a fish and chip shop that was still open, or to Ivan who had one of those things that he pushed around and he sold hot dogs, beef burgers and other such stuff and it all tasted great after a skin full[^][^]. Now the only thing that you can get is Indian take aways and they're not even owned by Indians[V][V]
