Oil catch tank

This weekend I'm fitting a K&N RU-1820 [8D], rather than just venting the fumes to the atomosphere/chassis rails I've been researching and discovered 'oil catch tanks'. For the more mechanically minded I guess these are nothing new but I rather like the slightly more environmental and less messy aspects.

Available commerical options seem about £40 upwards but it seems DIY alternatives can be setup for a fraction of that ie.

It seems a simple concept to put together from whatever's to hand - has anybody experience of OCT's (Commer or otherwise) to share ?

I've routed the vent pipe on my van into a glass jam jar, there is a hole in the lid to accept the extended pipe and a smaller 8mm hole to allow it to "breathe", it's held in a simple frame and attached to the rear of the engine bay just above the starter motor.

Top tip from the past (Dozer) pipe it into the chassis legs, all that lovely oil mist doing good [^]

An empty special brew can gets my vote. Unfortunately my local shop only sells them full. Oh well.
B&Q sells suitable pipe by the metre - any if you use the self check out you can normally get away with a couple of extra metres...
All you need then is a few cable ties to hold it all together.

Sigg bottles and bicycle bottle holders look a bit neater but cost a few quid more.
