Noise

Hey guys, normally I don't worry about the occasional niggling noise but this has started happening more in the last journey I took and I realise there is a long one ahead on Saturday!

Basically between 45 and 55mph with my foot just on the accelerator there is a sort of whine; if I floor it the noise goes away and if I remove my foot from the pedal all together it stops.

There seems to be nothing in lower gear at similar revs and it definitely doesn't happen at idle or when stationary with foot slightly on the pedal (I think!)

I wondered whether this was
a) something to do with the throttle cable and the fan getting friendly (probably only paranoid cos I heard it happened o nmy PA before I bought it)

b) Something to do with the rear axle/transmission?

c) Something to do with the gears

or

d) none of the above and hopefully

e) nothing to worry about!

Just wondering if anyone has had anything similar and a fix... hopefully some of you may get to hear it in the flesh on Saturday!

hi admin, sounds like it could be a diff whine, have you checked its oil level recently?, come to that worth checking the g/box level as well. probably not serious.:)

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off"

Don't know about your noise Admin, but I keep hearing a strange noise coming from Ran,sounds like a battery charging coming from under the engine lid, been like it a couple of weeks, today while checking the water & oil I noticed the air filter on top of carbs loose so that must be it!lets hope yours is similarly easy to find :)

I would agree with Tim, sounds like a bearing starting to complain just as it comes under load. Only one cure - keep your foot down [}:)]

Thanks guys - obviously I will be doing a load of pre-trip checks tomorrow morning - just need to get me an empty washing up liquid bottle to help fill the oil up!
