noise when clutch released

Hey just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem like the one I am having. Basically when I am driving it, I hear a constant noise, sounds like its coming from the rear and only when accelerating. When the clutch is pressed down and I am still moving, the noise goes away, when I release it, it comes back. I know I can figure it out by driving it with the wheels suspended While someone looks underneath but before I do all that B.S. , Id rather see if it is a common problem and hopefully an easy fix. A lot of the components I rebuilt a while back such as clutch slave, clutch master cylinder. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I would say its the clutch release bearing, if it was the diff or the uj's the noise would stay when the van is moving and the clutch is down !
Does it sound like a "shiming" noise like a dry bearing or something thats rubbing against something turning !?
 
I wouldn't think its the release bearing as it would make the noise when the cluth is released even idiling because I had that problem with my honda civic years ago but hey it may be.
 
I'm with Tim - have you checked the diff oil level? The power to the diff vs the diff just moving makes a big difference
 
So does the noise go when the clutch pedal is up or down !? Also if it is the diff the noise would come and go depending on if you where on or off the gas ?
Re reading the o.p it seems that the noise goes when the engine and trans are disconected and the even if the van is moving.
 
Eeeer! just my humble input..........if your van is stood still idling and you can hear the rattle and then you press the clutch paddle and the noise vanishes ............then defo clutch release bearing!:D:D

I figured it out, it was low in oil in the rear differential....Good thing I didnt drive with it much like that. took out what was left of oil, put new oil, drove it a few times around the block, drained it again and put fresh oil and it sounds perfect. Thanks guys for your input. It was really weird this noise as it wasn't too consistent
 
That's the thing - it's happened on Yori and Frodo and the fact that it quietens down when coasting with the clutch in is a bit misleading as the power from the engine has an effect on the diff noise
