No 9 Has arrived...

Hi All,

At last i have a running and almost usable commer. Its took 8 tries, but num 9 is a runner. Just got it off ebay. But had to drive 700+kms there and 700+ back to get it... The drive was very hilly, (Melb to Adelaid) and the old 280E with my 2.6:1 diff did not enjoy it at all. It was done in 3rd gear and often in 1st for hills.

Can anyone tell me who may have done the conversion ? Its a 1973 unit, that was impoted t0 Australia a long time ago.

A bit of Red and White paint and it should look rather spiffy...

Wow nice van there Phantomrose;-) huge round trip to pick her up so hats off to that. Looks like a Car - Camper with those side windows but i'm no expert so i'm sure you will get the correct info on here very soon! Does it have any known problems or is it a driver?

Just out of curiousity how much did she set you back?

Hi,
Its got a fully rebuilt engine, can run on unleaded, interior is very nice. Its registered and runs rather well as demonstrated by the old owner. I get to play tomorrow, its nearly midnight here.

It needs a rust repair front left bottom and lhs bottom of door. give i have 8 others for spares, should not be too much of a prob.

Its a very long trip, i left friday morning, and got back very later today, saturday. The rain and hills meant an average speed of 80kms.

Cost me $A1750. Way beyond my normal range fo $A300..lol

Time for bed.

9? Lucky bugger. All those spares to play around with;-0 even Martin would be envious i'm sure? Just goes to prove, people will travel miles for the right van! Well done mate.

great buy there and tidy enough van!

to give us a better chance of IDing the conversion pop up the roof and take pics and of the interior layout

Either Car-Camper or Clearway/Teamster. If it has a chequered floor, It's Car-Camper. If its a mottled floor, Clearway/Teamster ;)

I can't believe my eyes[:0] Australia - and it's raining.

What a find - a lot of people would go even further for that little cracker[^] Mind you if we went much further in the UK we'd fall off the edge:I

Went for a drive this morning. It needs tyres badly...BUT there is oil dripping at the front of the engine. Looks like the harmonic balancer seal is leaking. Hope its like a normal engine, where we just insert a new seat ???

A few more pics.

It's a clearway or Teamster, very difficult to tell the difference. Made by Associated Caravans Europe, Shipley, West Youkshire. I have 2 ;)

Martin,

Can you please put some photos of the ones you have.
i cant find any photos of a van with similiar windows.

Oil leak at front seal and tyres first..then paint. Though not sure what color....

i like the light blue bottom or the red... but the green also looks nice...ohhhh

Bye

Hi phantomrose great find, mine is the same as yours even same material on the cushions and sticker, go to my Flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/cemtastic/sets/72157613196970877/ to have a look she is waiting to be repaired ant the moment oh and she is a Teamster 2, good luck with it all.

Hi Cemtastic,
Thanks for the info on what it is. Yes its identical down to the material on the cushions and the laminate on the bench top.

I was told that mine was driven around Europe before being imported to Australia.

Cant wait until the front timing cover seal is replaced and new tyres fitted, then i can drive it around a little more.

WHAT HAPPENED TO YOURS ????

lovely van but what have you done with all of those other lovelt panel vans ect, or are they in you back yard. would love to see a picture of them altogether.
