Hi everyone i'm new to this forum and to commers in general. i was just 'browsing' around the net as you do when you should be working and came accross these gorgeous vans. for awhile we have fancied a vw but price has prevented this and actually on seeing some of the great photos on here of the commers i think they look even better.

does anyone know how i could get to see one in the flesh to try and convice hubby. we live in the north east of england, are there any shows or anything where i could actually get to see one up close? do they come up for sale very often? it is the van type i think i prefer over the coach built, are they all petrol engines, what mpg do they roughly get?

sorry for so many questions.

Commers are an excellent choice over vws - much more reasonable prices.

There are a few people in the northeast I think, I'm up in Bathgate (just oustide Edinburgh) if you ever come up to Scotland come and say Hi. I'll be popping down to Martin's place in August in my Commer PB Autosleeper conversion (the most common "van type"), (there's a bit of a gathering down there), which is in Yorkshire.

I was in the northeast a couple of weeks ago. We camped in South Sheilds which is a beatuiful part of the country. I have a few pics on my blog (www.littleyellowcar.co.uk)

There are a few diesel ones out there but they are quite rare I think. The downside is the mpg I think mid 20s is about normal, but with a few simple mods, this can be improved on. I'm claiming 30mpg at the moment (with my fingers crossed, down hill with a following wind:D )

Hi and welcome to the forum - can highly recommend commer ownership (but then I'm biased) hope you get to see some up close and personal soon - Martins would be the ultimate place to see them - should be a special line up.

Vans do come up fairly regularly on the old Ebay and under for sale section here - and are definitely great value compared to the VWs and I reckon they're a more practical camper as layouts go.

MPGs seem to hover between 18-25, the coach builts can be lower. Am guessing that is pretty comparable with VWs and equivalents - and LPG is possible.

thanks for the warm reception everyone. mpg pretty scarey but would def be interested in learning how you can improve it. think that is what worries hubby so much, that we spend money we haven't got on a van and then can not afford to take it anywhere? looked at your site rubert, looks good fun and yours is the type of van i would like.

will speak to hubby when he returns (away mountain biking at lakes)about martins, but def would be interested, thanks for invite. i do not think ferrybridge is too far from us, we live south west of durham. are children welcome, what about dogs? we have a lively 5 year old son and an even livelier dog!! 4 of us in a camper van - i must be crazy!!!:)
 
Hi and welcome to the forum, I have a Labrador of 4 who loves our commer, trouble is I have a son of 25 who shares ownership of RAN the VAN with me, which means I never get to see it, drive it or repair the scrathes on it (sorry Matt) so be warned that could be you in 20 years!! Nick.
 
hiya, glad another loon is round, we're new too and have been made very welcome by all, local steam rallys' are usually a good place to find old campers of all, and the owners are usually keen to let you look around and chat good luck with the commer hunt, Jayne xx
