New Visitor

Hello, as can be worked out from the title and username I have come from the dark side and no longer consider all things air cooled the universe... I've had a splitty, a couple of early and late bays and most recently a T25 but I've always had a bit of a thing about Commers, earliest memory was an old neighbour who had an autosleeper on his driveway for years when I was a youngster(had a V8 in his garage that was destined for the old girl)a shame but it never did get finished and now I so rarely see them about, however my current neighbour was talking about his ongoing restoration and it got me thinking! So I'll be starting the hunt for a reasonable/useable/rolling project type autosleeper in a couple of weeks and thought this would be the best place to start looking. I have to say what a friendly forum this appears to be with some really nice vans. I look forward to making use and hopefully contributing where I can.

All the best,

John.:)

Howdy, welcome along. You sound like a wise man. You're right, VWs aren't the be all and end all, there's lots of other stuff out there. You'll have a lot of competition when looking for an Autosleeper, you'll need to act fast if you find a good one!

Hey there John, nice to have you onboard mate. As Adam says, you will need to get in there quick when you find one and not ponder for too long;) they're nowhere near as plentifull as Vee-Dubs.

Thanks guys, I'll be getting married 5th September so all buying and selling activities have been put on hold by the boss. Until the 6th... then it's game on. I'm still getting my head round the various models and specs, It's just the highwayman type commers aren't really for me. There's only the two grown ups and one (nearly) teenager to cope with so we don't really need the extra space they offer. had a look through the for sale section and been looking on the web but as a sort of ball park figure for a useable/running project what sort of money are we looking at?

Regards, John.

They can be had for 500-2000, about the same price as a photo of a splitty :D

That may well be an option, I'm very used to welding marathons on the driveway, any chance of a few pictures? I'm a bit of a technological dullard so bear with me. Cheers, John.

Blimey, that certainly is a project! May be looking for something a little more 'complete', good effort though, thanks for the speedy response. John.

Hi, I'll have somewhere in the region of 1500 to 2000, hoping for something useable and to work on as a rolling project. The thought of a stripped shell and accompanying piles of stuff is fine with me, but the boss would reckon otherwise... ;)
