New exhaust system

Well, every days a school day. Got a lovely shiny stainless exhaust off Martin to fit today. I forgot to mentin I had new manifolds so I had to cut the engine end bit off. Being clever I offered it up with origional with the silencer still on. Marked and cut. Do not try this at home because thats wrong!!!

So now I need to have about 100mm welded back on as the big lumpy cone shapped bit of engine gets in the way. I am posting this stupidity so others don’t make the same mistake. :eek::eek:o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O:mad::mad::mad:
The only good thing about this is I can now sit back and have a beer
 
Very much so but I’ve stopped crying and the beer’s going down well. Trip to the friendly fabricators on Monday me thinks. Hopefully square off ends and reweld £10
 
Well I got them to add 1/2m on the front as they had the same size tube. Instead of it going between the gearbox and that big lump on the end it now crosses over nearish the cable (speedo?) which ment cutting the back tube To keep the silencer in a similar place and had to cut a bit off the short end section. Only broke one thing, rubber bolt thing, and a bit of a pig but got it done in the end. So quiet now you can hear all the other rattles lol
 
OOOOOOO shiny:cool: That will last until the rest of the van has crumbled into oxidisation ;)
 
Thanks, that’s 2 mechanic things I can do now lol. He can go in for his safety check next week after test riden this weekend
 
Another school day. On the way to garage to have new brake cylinders fitted my exhaust fell off :eek: Luckily i was still on the drive:D Due to the fact when I replaced the whole exhaust I reused one of the origional ‘brackets’ to hold it onto chassis, as there was no way the proper bracket would go on without it being all under massive tension. When I say bracket I mean a thick strip of what looked a bit like 10mm thick exhaust wrapping clamped between washers. I put it on the exhaust clamp by silencer. So when the thing fell apart by nut the clamp was no longer tight and the pipes separated. All in all probably a good thing it did that instead of barely holding together with no support and falling apart along the road. Thick guage wire replacement and hopefully the garage has something better. Whoops, lesson learned, just because something has been on there a long time doesn’t mean it’s right
 
Oh 'eck. You can get decent universal brackets from Halfords for a couple of ££'s
 
Ahh I never thought of that...... My f* up fairy has got involved again lol. Emergency overnight delivery from Martin to get the later type (correct) front b/cylinders to the garage as it’s sitting there in bits:(:mad:. As I have the week off trying to make new cupboards for R2 I need him here to get them right
