MPG

Well over the last month or so I have been getting a bit peeved with having to keep putting petrol in the tank every 500 meters...
I have been getting a reliable 22mpg but not to happy with that so had a fiddle:)
Been out for a decent run today (to the beach) and after a quick calculation it has now gone up to 36.5mpg. :):)
Very happy with that and it goes so much better. More power, smoother no pinking...
Will have another go and see if I can get it even better but not sure there is much more to get.
Not to bad for a highwayman:)

I just need a good rootes...

Hmm can't edit first post.
This was mostly at a steady 90 -100kph open road cruise.
It seems even a small change in mixture and timing settings has a big effect. It had been running slightly rich and a little retarded but not by much.
Think I might get my local garage to try the gas analyzer on it...

I just need a good rootes...

36 mpg is pretty incredible and for a Highwayman bordering on miraculous[8D] - just make sure it's not running too lean:I

How refreshing

The cost of his air fares to the UK may over ride any savings on mpg:D:D:Dquote:

I agree lanky, it is a surprise. The run was pretty flat with only a couple of moderate hills which were done at about 80 kmh in od4th with a short drop out of od on the second one. The trip is only 70km return so will see how it goes over the next few trips. Weather was perfect, no wind and iceman behaved himself perfectly. It is running the smaller SU 1 1/2" so that may have helped along with the overdrive and shaved and ported head etc. Oh and I run him on 98 unleaded.
Will check the plugs today and see if any sign of lean running but it didn't feel like it was. No hissing, popping, sucking or spitting in the carb or running hot so I think it is about right. Only needs about 40 seconds of choke from cold. Mind you cold is about 20deg so real cold might be a different story.
Plenty of oomph too. It's better than my 2ltr work van on the hills, more torque but less speed. Now just got to load up with all the camping gear...

I just need a good rootes...

All the mods add up and you get a more efficient engine, sounds like you've done a cracking job[8D] I can only manage 33mpg with all the changes I've made - and that's on an Autosleeper:I
