MOT this friday.First one in the ownership of Percy.

I know ive got the horn to do as it mysteriosly has stopped working this weekend.

The other tyhing im worried about is the emmisions as the mixture screw doesnt seem to do anything and hes running a bit rich.Ive got a spare carb that i may stick on if he fails.

If Percy is a pre-73 then I believe the emmisions test should only consist of a test for visible smoke? Might be worth confirming just in case your tester forgets this.

He's a 75 edition.Hmmm whats the test for post 73 then?

pre '73 emmision test exempt visable smoke only, '75 will be lower bracket emmisions test after '83 ? tighter tests [8D] you should be fine :D

fingers crossed on emissions, as far as I know our local oil refinery would pass the kind of levels they allow for classics :D

horn can be a fiddly job, I still have a Herbert Lom style nervous eye twitch from reassembling mine [xx(].....[xx(]...[xx(]....[xx(][xx(]

Im a bit more happy now:I

I have noticed the smoke isnt as bad as it was no after a trip away this weekend and after just firing him up just now theres only a slight wisp showing then nothing[8D]

Ive fixed the horn... loose connection:p

Just drawn up a list

*Fit passenger wing mirror
*passenger side sidelight not working
*Clean out screen washer jets
*Label the various buttons on the dash (so the MOT man knows what does what-they dont do as they should do!-lol)

probably will smoke a bit if only had short runs - long blast will have done him the world of good - everything else sounds a doddle - will you need to fit passenger rear view if you didn't have one originally? - or was it a casualty of war since last MOT [B)]

I bought a new pair from Ratsport but didnt have time to fit the passenger one as I needed to make up a spacer for them.

Er.. the really bad smoking was back again this morning[:(!]

So I just thought what the hell and rooted out the spare Zenith carb I found in Percy's storage cupboards when we got him. It had hand written on it by the way of a bit of tape 'emergency use only'.Oh well maybe it will be better than the one on there.So nicked a few clips and screws off the current Zenith and fitted the 'new' one.

Fired up fine on basic mixture settings so had a play with the mixture with a vacuum gauge and now got him running so smooth you can hardly hear him ticking over.Tis made me realise how poor the old carb actually was as it I never was able to adjust the mixture.

After a 10 mile run the initial hesitation on throttle seems to have flattened out so im pretty happy-much better than the old carb.Also NO SMOKE!!!!!!:D

On question though.On the carb ive taken off the throttle butterfly has a spring loaded screw set into valve flap but the one ive put on doesnt even though they are marked as the same Zenith carb.Anyone can tell me why this is.

All im worried about now is why is had 'emergency use only' writtn on it[:0]

that sounds like an overun valve, its there to allow some mixture in at high manifold depression when the throttle is closed, its really to lower the hydrocarbon emissions. s.u carbs are the same, some have it some don,t. you don,t need it and are better off without it as it creates alot of restriction in the carb :)

if you are struggling with that wing mirror don't need it on for mot.sybhil has same one missing & passed :)

Ive got them both on but because they are clamp on ones the door hits it if you open the door too far.

looks like im going to have to make a new bracket so they clamp on the door onstead of the cab body
