Sorry for my ignorance...but what are gear linkage brushes???
 
There are 2 brackets which support the gear linkage. One on the chassis, by the side of the g/box. The other near the steering box. The bushes wear and cause excessive travel in the lever, causing selection problems ;)

I have a terrible time finding 3rd gear,I'll check that out.Thanks:)
